GRAND ISLAND, NE – Daniel P. McElligott has been named president and chief executive officer of Saint Francis Medical Center, effective July 1, 2008. He succeeds Mike Gloor, who earlier this year announced his plans to resign to run for a seat in the Nebraska State Legislature.
McElligott has 20 years of health care experience in operations and finance. He joined Saint Francis in July 1995 as vice president of finance/chief financial officer. He has served in his current role as chief operating officer of the organization since June 2003. McElligott’s appointment was made by the Saint Francis board of directors and Catholic Health Initiatives, the national, nonprofit health system that sponsors Saint Francis. Dee Price, Saint Francis board chair, said, “We are very confident that Dan McElligott is the right person to lead Saint Francis during this next stage of its journey. It speaks well for this organization that a person of Dan’s talent and experience is part of the leadership team and ready to move into the CEO role.”
In commenting about his successor, Gloor said, “I could not be more pleased by the selection of Dan McElligott as the new CEO. Having worked closely with him for the past 13 years, I know that Dan has the ability, vision and heart to build on our progress and lead Saint Francis to new heights in service to the people of Grand Island and the surrounding communities.”
Prior to joining Saint Francis, McElligott was controller of Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center, a 193-bed general acute-care hospital in Riverside, Calif., from April 1988 to June 1995. He worked as an auditor with Arthur Anderson & Company in Irvine, Calif., from October 1985 until April 1988.
“I am honored and excited to have been chosen to lead Saint Francis Medical Center,” said McElligott. “I feel a deep personal commitment to this organization, having seen our hospital grow over the last 13 years and expand the healthcare services available to Central Nebraskans. I’ve seen close-up, the medical expertise of our physicians, the skill and compassion of our employees and the commitment of our board and leadership team. I am looking forward to all of us working together to achieve our goals, strengthen our mission and continue to improve the health of the people and communities we serve.”
